The British Isles

In our younger years, we travelled mostly in Scotland and the northern part of England with our parents. In the early 60s we went to Yorkshire, and then had a trip to London and the south coast of England. Heather even made it to Land's End and John o' Groats in the same year!

In the summer of 1963 we had a Youth Hostelling hiking tour of Northern Ireland with some University friends.

Europe

Our first visit to the European Continent was in August 1964 when we visited Austria - Innsbruck, Salzburg and the Tyrol. The following year, we took our sisters, Jenny and Norma, on a trip to northern Italy.

North America

During our first two years in Canada, we travelled the full length of the Trans Canada Highway, from coast to coast. In 1966 we toured the USA, and actually visited 30 states. We enjoyed the first of many visits to Heather's Aunt Babs, Uncle Herb and family in Ada, Oklahoma. Since 1966, our travels have taken us to different parts of the USA, but we still have a few states to "collect"!

It was 1975 before we were able to visit our final Canadian Province - Newfoundland.

Back to Europe

In 1988, Heather accompanied a group of students from Loon Lake School on a tour of Europe - to Germany, Austria, France and England.

To celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary in the Spring of 1989 we enjoyed a visit to England and then to Paris.

China

In 1998, we were fortunate to have the chance to visit China as part of the PhD program. Here we are in front of the Great Wall of China, near Bejing. We spent 10 days in Bejing, 5 days in Qufu, the home of Confucious, and a week in Shanghai, learning about the Chinese education system, and visiting schools.

Visiting Family

We have had many trips back to England, to visit family and friends. Here we are at Bamburgh Castle on the Northumberland coast with Norma and John and John's kids.

In October 2006 we drove to Las Vegas to meet up with John and his kids for ten days.

We probably travel to British Columbia most often, to visit Amanda, Kelly and our granddaughter Kallie. We have driven, flown, and travelled through the mountains on the VIA rail train.

This picture was taken in 2003 in front of an Inukshuk in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, where our son Jake and his wife Carla live. This was our second visit to Rankin Inlet, the first being in 1999, and the third in 2007.
